Piedmont Smokehouse Barbeque is a family owned business located in the beautiful Piedmont region of Central Virginia. After formal culinary training, Pit Master Chris McPherson spent many years in the restaurant field in New York, Austin, Flagstaff, Steamboat Springs, and New Orleans where he discovered his love for low-county and French Creole cuisine.
It is the mission of Piedmont Smokehouse Barbeque to serve authentic Virginia style barbecue and artisanal delights to the wonderful residents of Virginia’s Piedmont and the greater Central Virginia regions.
Piedmont Smokehouse Barbeque is a unique catering company. We are a full service catering company that brings fresh and local items for your menu to the location of your event where they are expertly slow-cooked in our custom built smoker. This not only ensures that you and your guests receive the freshest food possible, but that you are able to observe the traditional method of slow-cooking barbeque.
On a typical day, Chris’ smokehouse is brimming with pork shoulder, beef brisket, pork spare and loin ribs, smoked turkey breast, rib roast, top round, fresh belly, loin and buckboard bacon and tri-tip.
Piedmont Smokehouse Barbeque serves a wonderful variety of barbecued, smoked and artisanal products such as cold smoked sausages, cheeses and fresh belly, loin and buckboard bacon. The Holidays are a great time for dry cured rib roast, smoke roasted turkey or Black Forest ham. Sweets and spices also benefit from the cold smoking process. Sugars, exotic salts from around the world, Belgian & German chocolate, sweet cream butter and even Madagascar vanilla bean picks up the wonderful aromas and palate from such “sweet” woods as sugar maple.
Chris also loves to prepare smoked pit beans, hush puppies, fried catfish, fried okra and fried green tomatoes as well as hoppin’ John, Maque choux, deep fried sweet plantains, gumbo or Crawfish boil. A wide selection of seasonal cold smoked foods round out his enthusiasm for regional cuisines. Our sauces are all home-style from recipes handed down from family and tweaked by Chris to make a perfectly balanced sauce. We can even offer a couple of varieties to please multiple tastes.
We are experienced and equipped to feed a group of 50-2000, with a menu custom tailored to your needs. We cook all meals fresh on site, we never reheat “leftovers”.

Our cooker is not a reclaimed oil drum or propane tank that is customarily used by many of our competitors.
