Piedmont Smokehouse Grand Opening Celebration on October 14, 2017

By on Sep 11, 2017 in Real Virginia Barbecue | 0 comments

BBQ restaurant grand opening celebration on October 14, 2017 – in the heart of Goochland – less than 15 minutes from Short Pump A new quick-serve sit down and takeout Barbecue restaurant opened September 1 and is having a grand opening celebration on October 14. About 10 minutes west of 288 and Broad Street Road, the grand opening ribbon cutting ceremony will have music, food, pumpkins, bounce house and other family-friendly activities. Piedmont Smokehouse, which originally opened as a catering and food truck business in 2011 out of Goochland, has updated a rural, historic, and iconic Goochland building to dedicate to traditional Virginia-style Barbecue. The menu will have all the traditional items that locals love such as Pulled Pork, Pork Spareribs, BBQ Chicken, Smoked Macaroni and Cheese, Smoked Pit Beans, Creamy Cole Slaw and Picnic Style Potato Salad. Three scratch made regional sauces compliment the menu – North Carolina pepper vinegar, Georgia style mustard sauce and Memphis red sauce. “We are dedicated to Authentic Virginia Style Barbecue.” Says Pit Master and owner Chris McPherson. “Many people don’t know this, but Southern Style Barbecue actually began right here in America’s first Colony before migrating to the Carolinas. We smoke all of our meats using only local Red Oak and Hickory on our custom-built smoker parked right out back.” Piedmont Smokehouse Barbeque is a family owned business located in the beautiful Piedmont region of Central Virginia. After formal culinary training focusing on regional cuisine, Pit Master Chris McPherson spent many years in the restaurant business in New York, Austin, Flagstaff, Steamboat Springs, and New Orleans. As a resident of Virginia for almost 20 years, BBQ, with all of the history and cultural significance of the cooking style, fascinated the future Pit Master. After several years’ honing his smoking skills and recipes, Piedmont Smokehouse first opened a food truck in 2011. With the insistence of many private catering clients, opening the restaurant is the next step for Piedmont Smokehouse. Piedmont Smokehouse is located just off the Oilville exit in Goochland County – less than 15 minutes west of Short Pump. Located in a 100-year old iconic building on Broadstreet Road (Rte. 250). Doors opened on September 1. For more information about Piedmont...

Celebrate Independence Day with BBQ

Independence Day. The 4th of July. The day we celebrate the wonder and beauty that is America. What better way to honor our forefathers than with the most American of celebration foods – Barbecue! From the fire-y to the sweet, and from white to almost black, across this great nation is a beautiful rainbow of…barbecue. Here in Virginia – pork is king. We can’t get enough pulled pork, pork spareribs, chopped pork and baby backs.  If you head down to Texas, its all about the beef – brisket of course. Have you ever seen a beef rib? They look like dinosaur bones. Ever seen a Tri-Tip? Yeah, me neither. Down in Alabama, chicken is the queen – Alabamanaians (sp?) even created their very own regional sauce made just for chicken. The sauce rainbow starts with Alabama white. Alabama is BBQ famous for it’s fabulous white barbecue sauce – a tangy mix of mayo, vinegar or apple juice and pepper – made especially for chicken. Kansas City’s thick and sweet sauces can be almost black from molasses, while South Carolina has a lovely “Carolina Gold” mustard-based BBQ sauce. North Carolina likes to keep it simple with a spiced pepper vinegar, while St. Louis and Memphis like a mix between the Kansas City and NC – its redder, thinner and tangy! Pitmaster Chris makes all of the Piedmont Smokehouse BBQ sauces from scratch – at every on-site catering event, we always bring three regional sauces; Piedmont Smokehouse offers a traditional North Carolina Vinegar sauce, a Memphis-style red BBQ sauce, and our locally famous from scratch South Carolina-style mustard BBQ sauce. Give Piedmont Smokehouse a call for any Barbecue Catering in Richmond, VA. We also serve most of Central Virginia. If you prefer, email us your selections for a custom menu and we will call you within one business day to discuss. If you are interested in a good old fashioned pig pickin’ (whole hog bbq roast), we need at least a two-week...
